Last night I walked over to Coffee Hour and helped the staff eliminate some of the leftover food from a prior engagement. That was difficult work, but I was glad to contribute to the cause. Around 5.00 students began to filter in en masse.
I met several people I already knew and several people I hadn't met before. One was my old friend L. Volkova, who I've known for many years. We first became friends all the way back in 2008. While at coffee hour, we mostly talked about her work and some of the new security procedures for maintaining a green card, which have changed as security as become tighter.
I also spoke with Abdullah, one of the CIES students I've met before. He's a friend of Mohammed, and we both talked about what good people Mohammed and his wife are. We talked about long distance separation from family and the difficulties that causes.
One other person I spoke to at Coffee Hour was a Korean student studying Japanese in order to do business. She was also studying English, so we alternated between the two. Her friends were shocked that I spoke an Asian language. I had fun talking with her about Korea and what she wants to accomplish.
