TP #4 - Matthew

I met with Nasser last week for a session and we first discussed his family and how little time he has outside of the classroom. He has both his Wife and his daughter learning here at CIES, as well as a son learning at a high school (Godby). With him being so busy, it is becoming a little difficult to set up times that work with him. This is okay, because when we do get the time together, his questions are abundant. Today, like Fatwan, we worked on his grammar. He was having difficulty with understanding a few adverbs that were brought to his attention in class. This was exciting for me to see because the English language has such a creative usage of adverbs.
Together, we went over the ones that were presented to him in class, gave him clear meaning, and even had to demonstrate a few for emphasis. I feel that his level of English comprehension is quite high, which makes it easier for me to describe an adverb. The word "incredibly" was interesting to demonstrate, because the word itself has different meanings when used in different settings.
All in all, after a good demonstration and references in different settings, I feel Nasser has progressed his Adverb knowledge for the day. Each time we meet, I generally feel that I am helping someone learn just a bit more English that day. I like that.

  1. What course of action did you take to review the adverbs? I notice that you described for him what they were, but was their anything that you thought work specifically? I don't consider my self a real grammar guy so I'm interested in whatever methods anyone can vouch for.

  2. Dallas, good question! I am glad we had this talk right before the class started last week. Just wanted to touch base here, if you have any other questions, or generally forgot what we talked about, shoot me a message!
