Catalina - CP #3

At the end of Ross’ class on Monday, the Korean student Hon Woo (whom I think is somebody’s tutee) decided to ask me some questions about a blog that he’s writing with expressions he likes to collect and put in use in English. Precisely his question was about ‘something is fishy’ and I remembered reading an awesome children book with a kid that was always tapping on her braces that was called like that. I tried to explain as best I could, and he ended up asking me to meet up the next day to check out some more of his writing and other expression he doesn’t know if he’s using correctly. Therefore, Tuesday was out first official conversation meeting before TEFL class. He explained how he’s only in the US for one session and then he goes back to Korea to keep on studying, so he really wants to get the most out of English while he can! He asked me things like ‘cracking on’ (work) and I ended up also explaining ‘cracking up’ (laughing); ‘try to pull a fast one on’ (somebody) and I ended up also explaining ‘getting away with’ and so forth. He seemed really interested in the slang and informal language and, from what I’ve read, what he is writing has a very fun tone. We’re meeting again this Friday to have Krishna Lunch and talk about more English expressions, and, frankly, I wonder why he chose me to ask… Heck! I’m Spanish; I don’t even know that many expressions!
