Catalina - TP #8

This Monday Alberto didn’t make it so it was Tony, Emma and I. We started the lesson going over their homework regarding the text we’d gone over the previous day. They had written out the answers to the questions in full sentences and had gotten most of them right. There was a confusion with the question ‘What does Maria study’ since both of them had answered with where she studied… so we went over the 5Ws again! We were talking really long about the last question which Tony had answered correctly out of pure luck. The text said “At The Rez there are activities for all the FSU students to do without any charge” and the question asked “How much does Maria pay for sailing at The Rez?”. After a long and painful process they understood that ‘without any charge’ meant no paying! And I also realized how much I have relied on music (besides reading) to gain new vocabulary in context. You missed me singing U2’s ‘With or without you’, but I am defiantly going to start bringing songs to class every two or three lessons. ‘See you later Alligator’ is another recurrent phrase that Emma loves (and uses) after I showed off my Bill Halley impersonator skills.

Since I wanted to keep the lesson a lot lighter than the previous painful reading, we dove into family vocabulary and exercises. With our family stuff we went over possessive questions and answers (How many do brothers do you have? I have three brothers.), pronouns (she has two brothers, I have one) and a lot of pronunciation. It seemed that it was a theme they enjoyed and put easily into use. They do have some Q&A homework, so we’ll see how much they actually practice it! I want to develop another difficult class with phone call role playing soon, but definitely songs (with some new grammar and vocabulary) are up next!
